Pelèr & Ora

The north of the lake has two reliable thermal winds. The Pelèr (also called Sover or Suer) blows from the north from before dawn until late morning — strongest on clear days after a cool night. Around midday it dies and the Ora takes over from the south, building through the afternoon until sunset.

That rhythm is why Torbole, Riva, Malcesine and Campione are among Europe’s most reliable spots for windsurfing, kiting, foiling and sailing. The south of the lake is wider and gets less thermal wind — better for SUP, swimming and learning.
