In Controluce: Workshop with Alice Padovani and Filippo Cantoni

About the event

The workshop explores paper as raw material and its possible transformations, held as part of the Hypernatura exhibition at Museo della Carta.

Participants first work with Filippo Cantoni, papermaker at Toscolano Paper, to learn the process of making a sheet of paper by hand. They then continue with artist Alice Padovani, exploring the conceptual and poetic transformation of paper in line with the themes of Hypernatura.

The workshop connects the papermaking tradition of the Valle delle Cartiere with a contemporary visual approach.

Getting to Toscolano-Maderno

The nearest railway station is Desenzano del Garda; from there Arriva bus LN027 (Desenzano – Salò – Gargnano – Limone – Riva del Garda) runs along the Gardesana road through Maderno and Toscolano. By car, leave the A4 at Desenzano del Garda and follow the lake road north via Salò. From the Verona side, the Torri del Benaco – Maderno car ferry is the only road-vehicle crossing of the lake.

Ferry: Maderno is a stop for Navigazione Laghi passenger boats and the terminal of the car ferry to Torri del Benaco: the crossing takes 30 minutes, and in the summer 2026 timetable departures from Maderno ran from 8:00 to 19:15, several per hour at peak.

Toscolano-Maderno is two lakeside towns joined into one comune in 1928, divided by the Toscolano stream, whose delta pushes a broad, flat headland out into the lake.
