Padenghe sul Garda is the first Valtenesi village you reach driving north from Desenzano, and it splits neatly into two levels.
Up on the moraine hill sits the Castello di Padenghe, the oldest castle in the Valtenesi: a walled enclosure with a 20-metre square tower, an arched gateway where the drawbridge once was and two narrow lanes of houses that people still live in. Just outside, the Romanesque Pieve di Sant'Emiliano stands among vineyards facing Sirmione, a favourite spot for watching the sun come up over the lake.
Down on the shore is the municipal harbour at Villa Garuti, the Lido Padenghe beach and the West Garda Yacht Club sailing centre. The hills in between are vineyards and olive groves producing Valtenesi wine and olive oil.
Padenghe suits families and couples who want a quiet base with a pebble beach, a castle walk and wineries within cycling distance, rather than nightlife.

Pieve di Sant'Emiliano

- The nearest railway station is Desenzano del Garda, and drivers leave the A4 Milan–Venice motorway at the Desenzano exit and follow the lake road north.
- Train and bus
- Arriva buses link Padenghe with Desenzano and Salò (R-Link RL204 and LN007) and with Brescia (LN009). From June to October Navigarda boats call at the Villa Garuti harbour.
- By boat
- Seasonal stop (June–October) at Porto Villa Garuti with only a few calls a day on the Desenzano–Riva line; tickets can be bought on board.
