About the event

The San Michel cattle fair takes place at Prada Bassa, in Brenzone, from 27 to 29 September. On Sunday it opens at 10:00 with a festival and market, and children can make cheese with Giovanni; at 11:00 food and wine stands open with music and entertainment for children, and the 3rd "Transumanza" begins, with children accompanying the cattle on a 600-metre walk to the fair. At 14:30 the 1st friendly Morra game competition is held.

On Tuesday 29th, the feast day of San Michele, cattle are admitted to the fair at 8:00; this is followed by the opening of market stalls with livestock-farming equipment on display (8:30), the official opening of the fair with a technical commission judging the animals on show (9:30), and Mass at the church of San Bartolomeo with musical accompaniment by Maestro Stefano Romani (10:30), followed by food stands opening. At 12:00 authorities greet the public, then prizes are awarded for the best animals and for the Piccoli Allevatori (young breeders). The festival continues all day with music.

Castelletto weekly market

Brenzone's weekly market is held all year in the lakeside village of Castelletto. Stalls sell fruit and vegetables, flowers, groceries and clothing. It is a traditional village market for everyday shopping.

Getting to Brenzone

By car, the A22 exit Affi – Lago di Garda Sud is the usual approach from the south, Rovereto Sud – Lago di Garda Nord from the north; the road then follows the east shore. There is no railway on this side: use Peschiera del Garda or Verona, or Rovereto to the north, and continue by ATV bus along the shore (lines 483 and 484 serve the Garda–Malcesine stretch). Boats stop at Assenza, Brenzone and Castelletto.

Ferry: Navigazione Laghi has three stops here – Assenza di Brenzone, Brenzone and Castelletto – on the Desenzano–Riva line, with fewer calls than Malcesine or Garda.

Parking: Paid parking is available close to the Acquafresca and Magugnano beaches.
