Tremosine sul Garda is a plateau municipality of 18 hamlets above the cliffs of the upper west shore, listed among the Borghi più belli d'Italia and stretching from 65 metres at the lake to almost 2,000 metres on its peaks.

Pieve, the main village, sits on the rim of the drop; its church of San Giovanni Battista, rebuilt around 1570, is full of carved woodwork by Lucchini. Inland, Vesio, Voltino and the other hamlets are surrounded by meadows and terraced fields, and Formagella di Tremosine cheese is traditionally made at Sermerio.

The classic approach is the Strada della Forra, a narrow road that twists through a gorge between walls of rock. Far below, Campione del Garda occupies a small alluvial fan: Giacomo Feltrinelli built a cotton mill and workers' village there in 1896, the mill closed in 1981, and today its beach is a base for sailing, windsurf and kitesurf schools.

Tremosine suits hikers, road cyclists, kiters and anyone after a rural base with wide lake views.

Strada della Forra

Narrow road climbing from the lake to the plateau through a gorge, with tight hairpins and passages cut between rock walls.

Campione del Garda

Former Feltrinelli cotton-mill village (1896–1981) on a fan of land at the foot of the cliffs, now a sailing, windsurf and kitesurf centre.

Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista (Pieve)

Parish church rebuilt around 1570 with carved wooden choir, organ and confessionals, and an eighteenth-century Triduum display of 365 candles shown at the start of Lent.

MUST – Museo di Tremosine

Museum on Viale Europa whose core rooms cover the First World War on the upper lake, with further rooms on Tremosine's history.

Eremo di San Michele

Hermitage in the Valle di San Michele, a walking destination within the Alto Garda Bresciano park.

Getting there and around

By car: Tremosine is reached from the Gardesana Occidentale lake road, either up the Strada della Forra or via Limone; Campione lies directly on the lake road.
Train and bus: By bus, Arriva line LN027 (Desenzano – Salò – Gargnano – Limone – Riva) serves the lake road and local line LN012 (Gargnano – Limone – Tremosine) climbs to the plateau. The nearest railway stations are Desenzano del Garda to the south and Rovereto to the north (A22 exit Rovereto Sud).
By boat: Navigazione Laghi boats stop at Campione, but in the summer 2026 timetable only a few services a day called there; check the current timetable.

Can you kitesurf at Campione del Garda?

Yes. The Garda Lombardia tourist board lists Campione's beach with a school renting windsurf and kiteboard equipment, and describes the spot as a centre for sailing, windsurf and kitesurf.

What is the Strada della Forra?

It is the narrow, winding road from the lake up to the Tremosine plateau, cut through a gorge between rock walls. Expect tight bends and places where cars must pass slowly.

Can you reach Tremosine by public transport?

Yes: Arriva line LN012 runs Gargnano – Limone – Tremosine, connecting with the lakeside line LN027; Navigazione Laghi boats also call at Campione a few times a day in summer.
